Details of visit:
During the time, I’ve spent at Prof. Engel’s lab in Erlangen, I could get a detailed insight into basic developmental and genetic research. I was working on muscle development and regeneration in zebrafish, which is known for its regenerative capabilities. Thanks to good supervision I was taught how to perform In Situ Hybridizations, “Immuno Stainings”, microinjections and much more.
As part of the TRENAL program I was sent to Steve Wilson’s lab in London – a well renowned zebrafish laboratory at the University College London. Since F. Engel’s lab prepared me well, I could start right away and gain further insights into cutting edge technologies, like single cell sequencing, FAC-sorting and behavioral studies in zebrafish. Thanks to frequent meetings and exchange of information with other universities like the King’s College I was given the chance to widen my knowledge of basic research. With the experience, I gathered in London studying brain asymmetry, I hope I can return to Erlangen and continue my research.
London itself is a beautiful city and a thrilling experience for everyone who wants to be right at the pulse of one of Europe’s biggest metropoles.
