PHYSICIAN-SCIENTIST EXCHANGE

German researchers going abroad

6 months research stays

This program component will encourage post-doctoral researchers/fellows (M.D.s or PhD.s) to spend up to 6 months outside their home institution at a partner institution. Fellows who are involved in a research project at their home institution can use this opportunity for a focused set of experiments or for training in a special technique, with possible subsequent transfer to the home institution.

In other cases the goal will be to extend the postdoctoral research training at the host institution to 2 – 3 years, either financed by the partner institution through other resources or extramural funding, e.g. DFG training grant. The opportunity to obtain initial funding for 6 months as part of the TRENAL program will provide candidates the time needed to obtain preliminary results and apply for suitable research grants. To enter this program branch, the candidate will identify a faculty member at the respective home institution for supervision and will formulate a research proposal along with the faculty member and a possible mentor at the host institution.

As a special component of postdoctoral research training in the frame of the partnership between FAU and YALE, FAU postdoctoral fellows (M.D.) can apply for the PhD. in Investigative Medicine at YALE. Upon acceptance, all tuition fees will be waived. This represents a unique opportunity for excellent fellows and will form a strong basis for their career development.
